That's how it all started. *We then fell in love with this program so much that we decided to show it to the world, and hopefully become wealthy in the process. ConTracker E Z Estimating and Management Software

ConTracker E Z is an estimating program capable of completing a CertainTeed Roofing estimate in as little as 5 minutes with almost no typing, and flexible enough to use on all of your estimates regardless of type.
OK - that's great, so you can do an estimate in 5 minutes - BIG DEAL! Most contractors can scribble an estimate in about the same amount of time.
What's the BIG DEAL? ConTracker's strength really comes in to play when you get the job and then all you have to do is click a couple of buttons and voila, you now have a Materials List to send to the distributor to have materials delivered, a Work Order for the crew, and a Customer Invoice to get yourself paid. Now that's taking the work out of Paperwork!!!!!
Whether you get the job or not, you can look at Sales Reports that can tell you how many estimates you have done, how many you have sold even how many you have left to do!!!

When I first started estimating some decade plus ago, I used to complete my estimates onsite by handwriting every estimate. What was great about it? It was simple and I was able to complete my estimates as I went - I had no loose ends. What was the down side? My estimates didn't look very professional, which hurt my sales.
When we started the family business, we decided that to compete with the "big boys," it might be better to stop doing our estimates onsite and take them back to the office to be typed. We hired a secretary to do the typing, create a nice estimate package with brochures and mail them out. We were able to appear more professional to our customers, and were able to raise our prices to get more money for our jobs.
But there were down sides. We were spending over $ 4,000.00 per year on postage not to mention the salary for a "skilled" secretary. It was taking days and weeks to get estimates into the hands of our customers. Sometimes, estimate details would be forgotten or notes would get lost, so we would have to go back to the customer's house to remeasure. We had days where we could put a pile of estimates on the secretary's desk, and the only estimate not typed, was the one that was needed right away. Typos were a nightmare. Estimates would be typed, retyped, typed again, then edited, re-edited, until it was finally approved, only to find out the customer had awarded the project to a competitor. Did I mention the piles and piles of paperwork on everyone's desk? There had to be a better way!
So I did what every good contractor does - research what solutions are available, spend thousands of dollars trying everything - and hoping that I finally found the right one - only to find out that I hadn't. Finally I threw my hands up in disgust and began creating my own solution.
I have always liked computers. I've taken classes and studied Fortran, DOS, Word Perfect, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Access, MS Schedule, MS Outlook, Act, Quickbooks Pro, One Write Plus, and several others. Also I was fortunate enough to marry a wife that worked in an IT Department. She had her own computer skills, and began creating the model for ConTracker. The remainder of the program was built by a programming consultant.
We knew that we could create an easier way.
We had to combine completing an estimate onsite, with the professionalism of having it typed?
First - in order to complete the estimate onsite it would have to be easy, so we made ConTracker easy, with no unnecessary buttons or features. Then we had to take out the typing, (most people hate typing), so ConTracker uses boxes where you can type something in one time and then just click on it when you need it. And it had to be fast, so we created an estimate template that had most estimates up to 90% complete before you even leave the office (my fastest estimate complete is 3 ½ minutes, some contractors using ConTracker say that they have beaten me - but some contractors do like to exaggerate).
Now most contactors can easily compete with a 3 ½ minute estimate, even an Excel spreadsheet can beat that. But what was really neat was when the estimate was done, just by clicking one button, we had a material list (take off sheet ) we could send to our distributors to deliver materials (try making one of those out of a spread sheet), by clicking a different button we could create a Work Order for the Crew that included a material list and a copy of the contract, minus that annoying contract price, (my guys would always confuse Contract Price with Profit). They would even forget to take out the cost of materials and their wages Clicking another button gives me an invoice that I can hand to the customer to get paid, ( but doesn't influence my accounting, my bookkeeper loves that part) Job Cost Sheet with all the budget breakdowns for Labor, Materials, Other, and Profit, Sales Reports tell me what I'm selling, not selling, and who should I be calling to sell to, even what advertising media is working for me.
Okay, so we didn't come up with the solution to World Peace, and No - ConTracker does not just figure out the estimate for you by closing your eyes, jumping up and down while turning in place three times for the estimate to be complete. There's still enough work in completing an estimate to require the need for skilled estimators. Does ConTracker make it easier for some? Yes. Does ConTracker make it more professional for some? Yes. Is ConTracker more organized for some? Absolutely Yes!
We've talked to hundreds of contractors around the country and many from around the world ( gotta love email ). We have contractors that have saved up to 13 hours in one week ( he was using a typewriter and carbon paper), we have contractors who used to do their estimates on Sundays, and now have Sunday for their families, we have contractors that used to drive hundreds of extra miles back and forth to estimates that now can save that extra trip, we have contractors that are no longer losing jobs just because their competitor's bid was typed.
